MY CURRENT PROJECT
ABOUT MY FILM
It’s an emergency.
Urgency to act in the representations of transidentity on screen.
Last year, I did my thesis on transgender representations in film. I interviewed a dozen transgender actors and I realized that most of them had not any representation in their childhood in order to identify themselves, build themselves and position themselves in the society, and it’s create a complete isolation.
Transgender people are up to 10 times more likely to commit suicide. According to an American study, the rate of suicide attempts among transgender people has been estimated at between 29.9% and 41%. It’s huge!
In my short-movie « ADELPHE », I want to break down the problematic representations of transgender people characterized as monsters, as « woman disguised as a man » or the opposite, and with representations of the isolated transgender person, in an exclusively cisgender environment and having a conflictual relationship with they parents.
It’s a very important subject that is very close to my heart. This film is a tribute to a friend, Lyam. A friend who committed suicide a few years ago because he was transgender and because any representation of him allowed him to blossom and feel legitimate to be. By this film, I want to offer him a space of blooming. I want to give to all the other Lyam the possibility to identify themselves, to feel admitted, to blossom, and never suffer again.
I want to give hope, love and support in a universe mixing the cyber punk vibe and the 90’s voguing.
